Concerning news has arose regarding the Three Sister’s Mountain Village development in Canmore, AB. Members of the MSES team have been working alongside the Town of Canmore to identify potential environmental impacts of the proposed project with a special consideration to wildlife. The development area is along an important wildlife corridor which connects habitat from Yellowstone to Yukon.
Based on the original review of the proposal the Town of Canmore (with significant input from the residents of Canmore and experts), decided to not approve the development. Yesterday the Land and Property Rights Tribunal (LPRT) of Alberta overturned the Town’s decision, allowing for the project to go forward. The TSMV development will increase housing for the town’s population to nearly double, the development footprint along with the increased human activity will likely have strong negative impacts on wildlife.
