Fort Chipewyan’s remote solar farm largest of its kind in Canada, federal government says”

The solar farm in Fort Chipewyan is jointly owned by Mikisew Cree First Nation, Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation and the Fort Chipewyan Métis Association. The 5,760 solar panel facility had its grand opening this week and will provide 25% of the areas energy needs. This renewable power source will allow for the reduction in ice-road trucking, with hopes to reduce diesel fuel needs by 800,000 L per year.
