Wrinkled trees were the cause of great fascination from the local community near Perth, Ontario. Mark Read (the park’s naturalist) discovered the unique trees in early May, and reached out to the public and scientific community for answers. He had never seen a tree like this in the seven years he worked at the park. The scientific community responded saying this phenomenon is not well studied but could be the result of water stress or hormones, but there is no verdict to whether the wrinkles are genetic or environmentally caused.
